Minister States MoD Looking at Security Risk from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the MoD is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, while staff have been told to refrain from talking about secret matters in any cars.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

During a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister explained that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but noted that safety is a issue in all contemporary cars.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

The announcement follows claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly directing lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This broader security environment underscores the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in all aspects of government operations, from transport usage to communication habits.
